A Dream- Soon to be an Achievement!
Shubhangi had always been a career woman juggling between her job in the field of marketing and efficiently managing her responsibilities towards her family. As is the case with most under-appreciated working women, she used to work for around 12-14 hours EVERYDAY. Phew!
Describing her family, she says, “We are foodie people. My family loves variety of healthy foods. This made me a good cook overtime. However, this turned out to be not-so-healthy for my body. With age, I had gained an excess weight of 20kgs in last 35 years.”
Shubhangi had always like walking and being active in general. But she was never really a sports person since things were not so rosy for girls when it came to sports and outdoor activities 40 years back. At the age of 55, her body showed the alarming signs with her reports showing slightly increased blood sugar levels.
Fondly remembering the days when things changed for her, she says, “I decided to take charge of my health and was looking for some rigorous physical activity for weight loss as well as a healthy lifestyle. That’s when my good friend, Mr. Nikhil Shah introduced me to Pune Running South group and my journey began on 21 Sept, 2017. I regularly started attending their strength training sessions on Tuesdays & Thursday s atP.L. Deshpande Udyan onSinhgadRoad, Pune.”
“At the age of 57, after becoming grandmother of a loving 3-year-old grandson, I started this new physical activity of jogging/running/fast walk I found it very interesting, challenging & satisfying. In a short span of 11 months, I have lost more than 11 kgs of excess body fatthrough regularly following Pune Running’s fitness regimes. Dr Manisha Bandishti, a pathologist & lifestyle manager is helping me with my nutritional requirements.”
The key to the fantastic result that she got is that she never ever gave up. To even think about starting your fitness journey at the age of 57 is an achievement in itself. She has attempted 4 major running events till date along with regularly attending all the training sessions. Speaking about her motivation, she says, “Whenever I win any medal, my grandson fondly wears all of them& roams around in our society. The look of pride and joy on his face keeps me going and hungry for more of such medals in the upcoming events. I have a dream of completing the half marathon and I’m looking to make it a reality at PRBM presents PCCM 2018!!”
Her gratitude towards Pune Running is heartfelt and pure. She says, “The credit goes to Pune Runningwho are dedicated towards doing their work voluntarily with utmost discipline. Kudos to my friends Nikhil Shah, Pramod Deshpande-Trainer of Jainagar Jaguar group at Bangalore& alsoPadmaraj&Pushkraj- Doshi brothers”
